Selena Quintanilla: Dreaming of You

Y’all I could cry writing this post.

Selena touched so many lives and hearts and that’s why I still get emotional just thinking about her. Her music is legendary, her style continues to be seen in trends today and her talent was truly one of a kind.

I love celebrity culture so much that I’m making a career out of it but I’ve never felt so passionate or connected to a celebrity as much as I have with Selena. Her personality was infectious and she made her fans feel like they were part of her family.

I didn’t cry when David Bowie died and I didn’t shed a tear when we lost Prince. It wasn’t because I never listened to their music, but I just never felt connected to them. With Selena, I cry just watching old interviews. I need a box of tissues when I listen to her music and hear the way fans talk about her.

Selena was my first real role model (well, first celebrity role model). I was 3-years-old when she passed away, but you better believe that this little sassy Latina was rocking bedazzled skirts and vests sown by my grandma and I was already singing her songs with my grandma’s tortilla roller.

I’m from Southwest Texas, so Selena was OUR jam.

She was the person who gave Latinos hope that we could aspire to be anything. She paved the way and put us on the map. In fact, she was so beloved that People Magazine discovered the Spanish market was a profitable one after completely selling out their Selena tribute issue.

I really wish Selena was still alive today. I know she would’ve had a successful fashion line, makeup collection and movie career. I’m just glad her impact has been so powerful that one of her dreams came true.

Mac cosmetics learned that when Latinos are passionate and excited about something, we put our heart and soul into it. They made the Mac x Selena collection after her fans urged the company to create the makeup line. Now that the line is out, I can’t even get my hands on it!

If it weren’t for Selena, I’m not sure we would have Eva Mendes, Eva Longoria, Sofia Vergara or all of the great Latinas dominating Hollywood right now. She broke the mold and inspired us to embrace our heritage, curves and passions.

She put Latinos in the spotlight and she gave us hope that we think big and turn our dreams into a reality with hard work, strong values, and courage. She was such a magnetic force that I know she would still be more popular than ever – I mean, she still is after all of these years.

This is my little tribute to Selena, and I hope that I can get my fingers on her makeup collection. Stay tuned for more Selena tributes and tutorials.

P.S: While these images are not new, I did want to compile all of my Selena inspired makeup looks/outfits for this post. She has seriously meant so much to me. ❤

This is my all time favorite Selena song:

Space Buns Hair Tutorial

Hi babes!

I wanted to bring a new, fun hairstyle trend that I’m absolutely gushing over. Check out this extraterrestrial hair look below.

Space Buns Hair Tutorial

Note: This post was originally posted on Hello Giggles, by yours truly.

With ’90s trends still in full effect, it’s easy to understand why we’re stumbling upon the space buns hairstyle on Pinterest. The iconic do – worn on the big screen by Carrie Fisher and then recreated in the 1990’s by Gwen Stefani and the Spice Girls – is seriously out of this world.

This extraterrestrial hairdo has us singing “my anaconda don’t want none unless you’ve got buns, hun!”

Whether you’re feeling pumped up about Star Wars: Rogue One and having major Princess Leia vibes, or just looking for a music festival inspired hairstyle, the double bun trend is the way to go. It’s effortless, easy and crazy cute.

Here’s an easy space bun tutorial that will help you achieve this magical hair look. But before we get started, turn on “Spiderwebs” by No Doubt and unleash your inner ’90s Gwen Stefani.

What you’ll need:

Space Buns Hair Tutorial

Bobby pins
4 Hairband

Step 1: Brush out all of your tangles

Space Buns Hair Tutorial

Don’t worry about your hair being full of volume! My hair tends to get frizzy after I brush it out but, this will work in your favor in the end.

Step 2: Part your hair

Space Buns Hair Tutorial

Because this is such a playful look, you can create any kind of part that you desire. I parted my hair in a zig zag style in the front and went with a simple middle part in the back. Basically, party in the front and business in the back.

Step 3: Separating your hair and creating pigtails

Space Buns Hair Tutorial

For this step, try keeping your parts separate. I used my brush to help me create a side ponytail. I made sure to keep my pigtails high up towards the front part of my head that way the buns are the main attraction! Repeat this step on the other side.

Step 4: Tease your hair

Space Buns Hair Tutorial

To add volume to my double buns, I teased my hair after I put them in pigtails. The more teased your hair is, the more full your buns will look. Repeat this step for the other part.

Step 5: Twist your hair and roll it up in a bun

Space Buns Hair Tutorial

After you’ve teased your mane to your heart’s desire, twist your hair and roll it up to create a bun. Again, have fun with this look. I decided the messier the bun, the cuter it would be. Repeat this step for the other part.

Step 6: Almost done!

Space Buns Hair Tutorial

Once you’ve twisted your hair and rolled it up into a bun, add your second set of ponytail holders. Because I have thick hair I need extra hairbands but if you’d like, you can just add bobby pins to hold your buns in place.

Step 7: Finishing touches

Space Buns Hair Tutorial

Add your favorite hairspray or texture spray to keep your out–of–this world space buns in place all day.

Step 8: The finished look

Now you’re ready to conquer the world with this adorable hairdo.

How I Keep My Hair Healthy

How I Keep My Hair Healthy

So we all want that Serena van der Woodsen hair, right? I know I do! I get asked a lot about my hair – how do you keep it healthy? What products do you use? etc. The truth is, I don’t do much. Yes, I like to use certain brands and products, but I also try to stay away from heating it everyday. I try to keep my mane in its natural wavy style as much as possible.

Oh yeah, I’ve also NEVER colored my hair. Seriously. I have virgin hair, and so I think that my locks are healthy because I’ve never added chemicals to it. However, if you have colored your hair, I’m hoping that the products I mention will help your hair feel soft and smooth, too!

Hair Secrets:

How I keep my hair healthy

Shampoo Conditioner: First off, most people (and hairstylists) will say that you don’t need to wash your hair everyday, but personally I just can’t do that. I’ve tried in the past, and my hair just feels gross and greasy. I also don’t like the idea of putting dry shampoo on as a substitute for actual shampoo. Again, that’s just me.

I like to switch up my shampoo/conditioner because you never want your hair to get used to one product. Right now, I’m using the Pantene Pro-V Moisture Renewal Shampoo/Conditioner. Before, I was using the Herbal Essence Body Envy Volumizing Shampoo that gave my hair fuller waves. Right now, I’m more focused on giving my hair moisture and hydration. That’s why I love switching up my products because I can give my mane tender, love, and care in so many ways. I usually like to buy the same brand conditioner as my shampoo. I just like having the same products going on my hair as opposed to having it all mixed up.

I do deep condition my hair every 3 days, so I’ll skip Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, then I’ll deep condition on Tuesday. Make sense? I love the Schwarzkopf Essence Ultimate Repair Moisture Treatment. My hair feels 100x softer and smoother after using this. My mane is also shiny, and it looks soooooo healthy.

(*Disclaimer* – I was sent a few Schwarzkopf products, and I absolutely fell in love with their hair treatment product! I wasn’t asked to include their products in a post but I wanted to share them with you because it has truly helped my hair).

Styling: When I’ve styled my hair too much, I like to add argan oil only on the ends of my locks. Since I get split ends and it’s more damaged in that area, I like to give it a little extra love and care. I’ve been loving the Josie Maran argan oil, which is actually a body oil, but I like to use it for my hair too! This one is currently sold out, but there are similar oils sold at Sephora and Ulta.

I’m obsessed with Garnier Fructis Styling Sleek and Shine Flat Iron Perfector Mist for those days when my hair just needs protection from my curling wand or straightener. I love the smell and how weightless the product is. Most heating sprays make my hair stiff and I love that this drugstore product makes my hair feel like I’ve added a light layer of protection.

Once I’m done styling my hair, I like adding either Garnier Fructis Texture Tease spray or the Not Your Mother’s She’s a Tease Volume spray. Not only do these products give my hair life, but they help my waves and curls last throughout the day! I just feel like Selena Gomez when I spray these products. It adds volume and it gives me the tousled hair look.

After I apply the texture spray, I’ll add the OGX Argan Oil or OGX Keratin Oil to give my hair shine. It also tames the fly-aways. I try not to apply too much or else my mane will look greasy. I’m beyond obsessed with these sprays because they truly give my hair life! I love the smell too!

I hope these tips help you!

Beauty Review: Hourglass Vanish Seamless Foundation Stick

Hi beauty babes,

I’m putting a new product (Hourglass Vanish Seamless Foundations Stick) to the test, and let me tell you – if you have dry skin this might be your new best friend, but if you have oily skin then you might want to save your money. Check out my review and video below!

You can find the foundation stick and brush at Sephora and the Hourglass website. I’ve linked the Sephora site below that way you can get your beauty points if you want  to try this product out!
Foundation Stick: $46

Foundation Brush: $46

If you shop online, use my Ebates referral code to get discounts and cash back. All you have to do is sign-up (which is free) and start saving. Seriously, I get money for shopping.

While I wish I loved this new foundation more, I am going to use it to contour and highlight my under eyes since the triangle design is perfect for creating sharp lines on your face. I’m hoping that this makeup will work better for me in the wintertime when my skin is more dry and I’m less sweaty. It’s TOO HOT in Cali!

The product claims that you’ll instantly have full coverage in one application. It also claims it’s long-wearing, waterproof, and the formula adjusts to your body temperature. It says it lasts 12 hours – and I’ve put it to the test! Hint: it wasn’t waterproof and it didn’t last me 12 hours. BUT, again, I’m oily and I think if you have dry skin this might work for you. While I didn’t fall in love with the foundation, I did like the foundation brush. It’s so soft and it’s a perfect size to take with you when you’re traveling! I love that the brush has an angle, which makes it so much easier to apply around the eyes and cheeks.

I just wanted to say that I received all of the items shown (yes, including the brush). All opinions and reviews are my own. I will never lie or collaborate with a brand that I don’t believe in. And I will always disclose if a brand sent me products to review or if they compensated me to talk about their products.

The above links are not affiliate links; some have just been added so you can save money and look up the products if you wish to purchase them.

How I Get Ready For The Red Carpet

Hi babes,

As some of you know, I’m an entertainment reporter by day and a beauty/fashion fangirl by night. When I’m not gushing about the latest skincare products or talking about how much coffee I desperately need, I’m interviewing celebrities or writing about them.

I get a lot of questions about what it’s like to meet celebrities and what I do to prepare questions. A lot of people also ask me how I get ready – it’s no walk in the park, let me tell you. I want to share a few behind-the-scenes moments and the hustle that goes into it!

Red Carpet Interviews

When I know that I need to cover an event, I always try to get a good night’s sleep. It’s so important – have you not heard of the term beauty sleep? But seriously, I need my rest or else I’m stressed and panicked the entire day.  If I have time, I’ll hit the gym in the morning.

Also, what they say is true – the camera really does add 10lbs. Sometimes, the camera is so evil it will add more. I always start the day with coffee and I do extra research on the celebs attending the event. I make sure I’m up-to-date with everything happening in the world/trending topics on social media.

Red Carpet Interviews

People seem to forget this, and I don’t blame them since it’s the most boring part of the job, but I have to do my research. I can’t just show up to a red carpet and not know anything about the celebrities walking the red carpet. I need to know what projects they’re working on, what shows they’re binging, who they’re dating, etc. Celebrities like to show up unannounced – go figure! – so I have to make sure my phone is charged that way I can do research on the spot. Thank goodness for Smartphones!

Having a journal filled with questions and information is what keeps me sane. I always have notebooks lying around, even small ones, that way they fit easily into my purse when a question pops up while I’m out.

Red Carpet Interviews

Now to the fun stuff! The night before, I like to give myself outfit ideas. During the summer months, it’s HOT and I don’t play around. I usually opt for a dress. Okay, to be fair I always go with a dress. I’ll pick something that not only flatters me but that is comfortable to wear for a couple of hours. Most of these carpets are chaotic, so I need something that looks great and that I can easily move around in. Thank you Spanx for sucking everything in while making me stay comfortable!

Red Carpet Interviews

My boyfriend probably wishes I only had 3 heels because I’m taking up all of the closet space. For this post, I have 3 go-to shoes that are my ride or die. They are comfortable, cute, and worthy to meet celebrities. I’m a petite chica, so heels are always a must, especially when most celebs are amazons. I also hate getting blisters and sore feet. These shoes keep me from falling, cursing, and hating my shoe choices. LOL

Red Carpet Interviews

I love wearing my hair in waves or big curls. It just makes me feel glamorous and sexy, like Sofia Vergara. The reason I love wearing my hair in waves is because the heat (and unsexy sweat that happens when it’s 100 degrees in Cali) makes my hair frizz. When it’s straight, frizzy hair is not a cute look. I can’t have crazy hair when I’m meeting my celebrity man crush can I? HELL NO! With waves, frizzy hair just makes it look more tousled and I feel like a true Cali girl at the beach.

Red Carpet Interviews

I usually get a lot of questions about my makeup and how I make it last all day during an event. The truth is, nothing lasts 24 hours even if it claims to be. I always keep a small makeup bag in my purse and do touch ups when I have a break. However, I’ve picked up a few tricks along the way. I used to love wearing bold lip colors, like bright pinks and dramatic reds. I’ve learned that having lipstick smeared on your teeth while chatting with Mr. McDreamy is not cute and it’s totally embarrassing. Again, those red carpets are chaotic, so I don’t have time to keep applying lipstick.

Most of the time it dries up and gets crusty. That’s also not a cute look and it’s VERY embarrassing. Instead, I focus on my eyes. I love a dramatic eye look. Not only are the eyes the window to your soul but you don’t have to worry as much about it smudging everywhere. I rather a celebrity focus their attention on my eyes instead of my crusty lips. I keep mascara on hand and I always, always wear false lashes. Again, I love the drama!

Red Carpet Interviews

I would love to hear your thoughts on this post! Share your favorite red carpet moments with me and leave any other questions you have for me down below! xoxo

Beauty Review: Besame Cosmetics Brightening Setting Powder

Hi babes!

Besame Cosmetics Brightening Setting Powder

I think I’ve just fallen in love with a new beauty brand – Besame Cosmetics. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to gush about such a unique and glamorous company.

**Disclaimer** The beauty babes at Besame Cosmetics kindly sent me products to test out so I could share their amazing brand with y’all! While I received these lovely items to review, all opinions are my own. Stay tuned, I will be showing off their lipsticks (which are amazingggggg!)

Besame Cosmetics Brightening Setting Powder

Note: All of the photos are of me wearing only foundation, concealer, and the setting powder. I did not wear anything else (other than eye makeup) for this review.

Brightening Setting Face Powder (Vanilla): $22

**You can also purchase Besame Cosmetics at Sephora. If you shop online, use my Ebates referral code to get discounts and cash back. All you have to do is sign-up (which is free) and start saving.

Let me start by saying that I’m beyond amazed with the packaging. The box itself is super cute and when you open it, it says, “Get ready to be admired.” SWOON! How freaking adorable? The entire brand has a 1920’s vibe and you will instantly feel glamorous. I know I did.

I love that the brightening powder comes in several shades, so if you’re morenita, there’s a shade for you! It also comes with a cute powder applicator that you can actually use. Most companies will include an applicator, but they’re so gimmicky and crappy that you have to use your own stuff. While the actual product is small (.21 oz), you can easily throw it in your purse for afternoon touch ups. It’s great for traveling, too!

Besame Cosmetics Brightening Setting Powder

It was hard to shake the product out, but I do love that there’s an extra cover that way the powder doesn’t spill out everywhere. After I applied my foundation and concealer, I noticed that once I applied a small amount near my eye, it immediately brightened that area. It really does brighten your skin! I looked more awake (who needs coffee when you have this magical product?), and my skin looked flawless.

Besame Cosmetics Brightening Setting Powder

The powder is weightless. I didn’t feel anything on my skin. My face was glowing and the powder didn’t make my skin look ashy or patchy like other powders do when you apply too much. I love that it lasted the entire day! Let me tell you, it is boiling hot in Cali, and this makeup stayed put. I didn’t sweat it off or anything.

I would definitely recommend purchasing this product if you’re looking for a higher quality setting powder or if you want something to give your face a natural glow.

I hope you enjoyed this post, lovelies!
