Let’s talk about mascara! I know I’m a year late, but I decided to try the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara. I was a bit skeptical about this product to be honest. A lot of beauty bloggers raved about this mascara and how it curled and lengthened their eyelashes without having to use an eyelash curler. However, I know that Benefit gives their products to bloggers, so I wasn’t sure if they were all honest. I wanted to put this mascara to the test.
Disclaimer: I’m definitely not one of those bloggers that gets paid to review beauty products.
The mascara claims to lift and curl lashes without needing an eyelash curler. So that’s how I used the product, even though it killed me!! I’m one of those chicas that needs to curl my lashes. I didn’t apply eyeliner or dark eyeshadow, either that way you can see the mascara clearly. I think I’m gonna share my first thoughts with you as I tried the product and give you my last thoughts at the end of this post. So stay with me!! 🙂
Quick note: This mascara is $24 and a deluxe sample is $12.
I purchased mine at Ulta but you can also buy this at Sephora. ULTA is actually having a special offer for anyone who purchases Benefit products. You’ll receive a gift bag with any $30 purchase. I think the deal ends 1/30/16. I found this deal on EBATES. An online place that pays you to shop. SERIOUSLY. You also get promo codes, coupons, and cash back when you shop through Ebates, and they have Sephora and Ulta as part of the stores they collaborate with. If you use my link, I get money and you get money. Win/win. Sorry if that sounded like an ad!! I really just want to help out any beauties on a budget. I’ve been there, and I’m still there. LOL
Okay… on to the good stuff.
My eyelashes aren’t long to begin with. They really need help and that’s why I love my eyelash curler. I also have pretty thin lashes. I wouldn’t say that my lashes are full, either. I think for the most part, my lashes are pretty normal, but my hair is thin and I usually have to apply two or three coats of mascara to give them volume and length.
Opening the mascara – The wand on this mascara is pretty flexible and thin. So I was very afraid that this wouldn’t curl my lashes.
Okay, so let me say that my initial thoughts about this product not working are completely out the window! My eyelashes look soooooo good! I love that the wand has little spikes, which allows you to separate your lashes and it makes them look longer.
My eyelashes curled after the first coat dried. I will say that it does get a bit clumpy in certain areas, specifically the outer corner of your lashes. I also feel like once it does dry, it doesn’t curl evenly. They still look amazing though after one coat.
Omg!!!! Okay, so two coats is probably where you want to stop. I love how long my lashes look. I noticed that the longer you let each coat dry, the harder it is to go in with another coat. My first coat had pretty much dried by the time I applied the second one, and I saw that it was getting clumpy at the bottom of my lashes. It curls once it dries, so I think going in with another coat makes it harder to separate the lashes. It works better to do two coats when the lashes haven’t completely dried or curled. I noticed my lashes lifted more on the second coat. Although, I still love the length this product gives.
Final Thoughts: I would highly recommend using this product if you want long lashes. I don’t think it curls that great and it does get clumpy if you apply too many coats. I think this product is perfect for someone who needs to be out the door in 5 minutes or someone who likes a natural makeup look. Personally, I like this mascara more for a daytime look and not a nighttime look.
This product surpassed my expectation with lifting and lengthening. I’m just not impressed with the curling. It does curl, but not evenly and it does get clumpy. Your lashes can look like spider legs real quick if you apply too much of this product. It doesn’t really allow for build up.
I would most likely purchase this product again because I can’t deny that I love the length it gave my lashes. But at the same time, I think there are cheaper mascaras out there that do the exact same thing. The Maybelline Lash Sensational and Mary Kay’s Lash Love both add come to mind in terms of length and lift. I don’t care so much that it curls on its own, because personally, I enjoy curling my lashes and knowing that they’ll curl evenly. I don’t know. I like this mascara, but I’m also not impressed. I think if I’m paying $24 for a mascara I better be jumping up and down with excitement. I was happy with the results, but there were a couple of things that left me disappointed.
P.S. I tried this product with an eyelash curler, and it looks terrible!!! It works way better without curling it.
Hope this review helped!
